Blog Descriptions: Tips for Effective Ones

The importance of blog may not seem to you at the moment.

When users find your brand in the SERPs, the first thing they find is the description. Along with the title, it is he who makes the decision to make or break.

The blog or post description is the snippet that appears below your link on SERPs and social media sites.

There are 2 types of descriptions in a blog

Blog Description - A description of your entire blog that is visible in the link to your blog.

Blog Post Description: A description of what your blog post is about is different for each blog post.

See the table of contents below as I have organized this blog post to include both types of blog descriptions.

How to write blog descriptions?

In addition to a meta description for each of your blog posts on your blog, you must also have a description for the blog / landing page on your site.

If you like WordPress, there are many SEO plugins like Yoast SEO that allow you to add the blog description of the website. The description you enter here will be visible in the homepage link of a Google search.

Include some or all of the following in your blog description:

  • USP for your product / service / brand
  • Social proof or support about your brand
  • Elements are based on mutual understanding
  • Your experience showing that you are an authority

How to write blog post descriptions?

If you installed the Yoast SEO plugin in WordPress, as I explained above, in the post editor, you should see something like the one below.

Submit a meta description

This is called the meta description that Google displays under the title of your blog post on the search engine results page.

It clearly describes what you have in your post to your readers. With this, visitors will clearly say that your blog post is what they are looking for.

Include a summary of your message in your descriptions. It's like previewing your blog post.

This will give you more specific visitors. It removes unrelated traffic to your site. This, in turn, lowers the bounce rate, which in turn is a sign of the quality of the content for Google.
